Who we are

El Camino Construction Limited — a construction company built by engineers, for Kenya

We are a Kenyan construction and civil engineering firm delivering road construction, culverts and drainage, water installation and infrastructure development — from our Nairobi base to project sites across all 47 counties. Our official office email is info@elcamino.co.ke. We are not a clothing or household-goods retailer, and we are not Elcamino Connect.

Our story

El Camino Construction Limited was founded in January 2021 by Eng Eric Mbai, after years working as a site engineer and quantity surveyor for other contractors. He had spent that time doing two things well: building drainage and road structures that lasted, and preparing bills of quantities accurate enough to win contracts and still deliver them profitably.

Those two disciplines — field execution and honest costing — are the foundation of the company. Most construction projects in Kenya do not fail because the engineering is impossible. They fail because the price was never realistic, the programme was never planned, or nobody was accountable when conditions changed on site. El Camino exists to remove those failure modes.

What makes us one of Kenya's strongest construction companies

We do not ask clients to take that on faith. Here is what it actually means in practice:

  • Engineering before excavation. Every project is surveyed, planned and programmed before mobilisation. Buildability problems get flagged as design queries, not as variation orders halfway through.
  • Bills of quantities by a practising quantity surveyor. Our CEO prepares and reviews the numbers himself. Clients get an itemised, defensible price — not a figure that quietly doubles.
  • Speed without shortcuts. Eng Eric Mbai has a record of completing projects within the shortest workable durations, achieved through planning and logistics rather than by thinning specifications.
  • Proven in hard conditions. A 113km road corridor across Amboseli. Drifts in Machakos. Culverts in Kiritiri-Mbeere. Water installation at Chepyuk on Mt Elgon. Remote sites, long supply chains, real stakeholder pressure.
  • Transparent reporting. Clients can follow project stages, milestones and progress on this site rather than chasing updates by phone.

Our track record

Work delivered by our team and leadership includes:

  • Grading and gravelling of a 113km road from Namanga to Kimana across Amboseli National Park (2019)
  • Three drifts at Wamunyu, Machakos County, with associated drainage works
  • Culvert construction at Kiritiri, Mbeere — multiple structures
  • Water installation at Chepyuk, Mt Elgon
  • Infrastructure works coordinated with Kenya Wildlife Service around protected areas
  • Bills of quantities and winning tender submissions prepared for several contractors

Mission and values

Our mission is to deliver end-to-end building projects with clarity, reliable timelines and quality workmanship.

Our values are passion, integrity, hard work, professionalism and care — in that order, and applied to the client relationship as much as to the concrete.
